Glaucoma Risk Calculator

An educational tool using published glaucoma risk factors — family history, corneal thickness, race/ethnicity, eye pressure, and more — to help you understand your general risk profile. Not a diagnosis.

This is an educational screening tool, not a medical diagnosis. It estimates your general risk profile based on factors used in published glaucoma risk research (including the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study). Only a comprehensive eye exam with a glaucoma specialist can diagnose or rule out glaucoma. Everyone benefits from professional screening regardless of their result below.

How This Calculator Works

This tool uses risk factors drawn from published glaucoma research — most notably the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (OHTS), which identified age, eye pressure, corneal thickness, and cup-to-disc ratio as key predictors, alongside well-established factors like family history, race/ethnicity, diabetes, refractive error, trauma history, steroid use, and vascular risk factors relevant to normal-tension glaucoma. It produces a general risk category, not a percentage or diagnosis — glaucoma can only be confirmed or ruled out through a comprehensive in-person eye exam including dilated optic nerve evaluation, OCT imaging, and visual field testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this calculator a substitute for an eye exam?

No. This tool is for education and awareness only. Glaucoma can only be diagnosed or ruled out through a comprehensive in-person eye exam, including dilated optic nerve evaluation, OCT imaging, and visual field testing.

What factors does this calculator use?

It draws on well-established glaucoma risk factors from published research, including age, family history, race/ethnicity, eye pressure, corneal thickness, cup-to-disc ratio, diabetes, refractive error, eye trauma history, steroid use, and vascular risk factors.

Do you store my answers?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your web browser. We don't collect, store, or transmit any of your answers.

I got a 'lower risk' result. Do I still need an eye exam?

Yes. Glaucoma is often completely symptom-free until significant vision loss has occurred, so routine screening is recommended for everyone starting at age 40, regardless of calculated risk category.
